Rodial is a UK line of luxury high-performance skin care and makeup products designed to produce “instant results and long-lasting benefits.” Rodial is known its for innovative, world-class, anti-aging products.
I have been dying to try Rodial products for quite some time. Rodial has amassed a cult following of beauty enthusiasts and celebs, including Lady Gaga, Ellie Goulding and Kylie Jenner. I honestly cried tears of “beauty blogger” joy while unboxing the exquisite selection of beauty products Rodial so kindly sent to me for review (complimentary gift)!
- Dragon’s Blood Velvet Cream
- Dragon’s Blood XXL Lip Plumper
- Dragon’s Blood Cleansing Water
- Baking Powder
- The Baking Brush
I received three products from Rodial’s Dragon Blood skincare line: Velvet Cream, XXL Lip Plumper and Cleansing Water. Rodial “incorporates Dragon’s Blood plus hyaluronic acid to smooth, plump and hydrate the skin. The Dragon’s Blood range is designed to protect the skin, target redness and restore hydration”.
Dragon’s Blood is actually even more amazing than its mythical name suggests, I put it on the same level as Unicorn Tears. Dragon’s Blood is derived from the sap of Dragon’s Blood Tree (Croton Lechleri) Dragon’s Blood has a centuries long history of medicinal use (healing, nourishing, hydrating, anti-inflammatory benefits plus antibacterial and antiviral properties)
On a side note: (interesting read on how Dragon’s Blood aids in wound healing) http://www.herbs-info.com/dragons-blood.html
Dragons Blood Velvet Cream
Description: “A rich, luxuriously textured cream that offers multi-dimensional hydration to leave skin feeling deeply nourished.” Dragon’s Blood Velvet Cream is designed to soothe + hydrate dry skin and protect the skin moisture barrier. Added noteworthy ingredients include carob seed extract acid, hydromanil, vegetable squalane and evening primrose oil to leave skin feeling smooth, restored and radiant.
Dragon’s Blood Velvet Cream is a thick, velvety cream which absorbs easily and leaves skin feeling smooth. It is intensely hydrating without leaving a heavy or greasy residue. It can be applied morning and evening, as well as throughout the day for added moisture.
I have been applying nightly after my night serum for the past 13 nights. I have never used any type of product on my skin that comes close to this in terms of overnight visibly restored hydration. After one night of use it made me realize what a difference well-hydrated skin does to our appearance. My makeup appeared smoother the next day. My forehead (notorious for flaking the day after using Clairsonic) did so to a minimum. Having used for 13 nights now, I will say my face looks better than it has in ages in terms of hydration, radiance and overall smoothness.

Dragon’s Blood XXL Lip Plumper
Description: Designed to nourish and boost lip volume instantly with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin E and bisabolol. Added benefits include enhancing and maintaining the lips moisture level and smoothing. Chili extract promotes instant plumping action.
Dragon’s Blood XXL Lip Plumper is packaged like a pen with a soft brush, under a cap. The product is released via the brush with a few clicks of the pen. I was a bit nervous at first, as it took more than a few clicks to release the product. However, after “priming”repeat applications only require 1-2 clicks to release the product.
Being a devout daily user of Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme, alternating with Buxom Lip Polish and during the work day Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker XXL Pillow Plump Gloss, I have pretty solid 24-7 Lip Plumping Regimen 😆. Admittedly, I had Lip augmentation with Juvederm Ultra Plus XC June of 2013. While the majority of it is gone (lasts no more than a year or less), I still have a noticeable divet/clump in my lower lip from undissolved filler (I plan to get a touch op before summer). Therefore I have chosen to not post close up before and after photos.
The Dragon’s Blood XXL Lip Plumper brushes on translucent and non-sticky. I best describe it as having a spiced-up, silky, buttery feel. The plumping effect is almost instantaneous – hello chili extract!! I first made the mistake of applying before my lip liner – (I made the assumption that it will absorb quickly). Lip liner application was a bit tricky, as I had a slippery surface for application. So I had to wipe off and start over again. It truly hydrates as my lips, stayed moist for hours and did not irritate my lips in the slightest.
The tingly effect is short-lived and not as intense as Too Faced (I oddly enough enjoy it). The plumping action is subtle at first in my opinion. With repeated application throughout the day, I have achieved notable lasting fullness with use, in part to the intense hydration the Plumper provides. Well hydrated lips in general appear fuller.
How does it compare to my above-mentioned faves?
I would say Rodial Dragon’s Blood lip plumper falls between Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme and Buxom Full On Lip Polish. Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme is my “holy grail”, most coveted lip product, however it is not as hydrating as Rodial’s product. Too Faced as well as the other ones I mentioned provide more immediate plumping action, while Rodial Lip Plumper promotes long term fullness in addition with focus on enhanced moisture level.
Dragon’s Blood Cleansing Water
Description: Dragon’s Blood Cleansing Water (micellar water with hyaluronic acid and vitamin B3), also includes rose water to aid in removal of makeup and dirt from the skin. Dragon’s Blood soothes and hydrates with Vitamin B3 for a brighter complexion and skin tone that illuminates.
I had previously never used any type of Micellar water product. I was in for a surprise! My typical cleansing routine has been Witch hazel, Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash (in the shower), followed by Clean & Clear Astringent on occasion. For eye makeup removal I have always used Maybelline.
I have used Dragon’s Blood Cleansing Water every night for 13 days and no longer dread the time-consuming process of makeup removal. It effectively removes all traces of my “MAC forcefield” including waterproof mascara. Leaves zero residue and never that “tight, just-washed-your face feel.”
Would I purchase? I would highly consider, despite the steep price, my expectations have been set pretty high, having only used this product. I am curious to discover if other micellar cleansing waters will work as effectively.

Rodial Baking Powder + The Baking Brush
“Baking” in summary is the process of applying a translucent setting powder to your face (over foundation and concealer), then allowing it “bake” or set to your face for about ten minutes. The body heat released sets your foundation in place. Once set, you simply brush off the excess powder, then voila! You are left with a flawless, matte finish (in my case zero makeup creases and oily patches).
I have incorporated baking into my daily makeup routine for a few years now, having most recently used Maybelline Facestudio Master Fix Setting + Perfecting Loose Powder , rather than a fancy “baking powder“. I was delighted to know a true baking product actually existed!
Yet again Rodial exceeds my expectations. The Baking Powder is much finer in consistency and translucent than a typical loose powder. After using the baking powder for several days straight I realized that my makeup appeared more polished and matte. In hindsight, it dawned on me that the Maybelline powder has a more dense consistency almost left me with an “ashy” appearance if caked on too thick.
The Baking Brush also has an important role in the baking process . The brush has soft, dense hairs, which easily pick up product to brush on as well as brush off with similar ease.
I hope you enjoyed reading about these exciting products! Some items I hope to try soon include: Rodial Airbrush Concealer, Instaglam Contouring Powder, Dragon’s Blood Lip Mask, Instaglam Banana, Illuminating, Bronzing and HD Translucent Powders.
I would love to hear all about your favorite Rodial products!
